The South West Coast Path, at 630 miles, is the longest National Trail in the UK. It starts, according to most of the guidebooks, at Minehead, and finishes at South Haven Point on the south side of Poole Harbour. In my case, it started at South Haven Point and ended at Minehead.

The eccentric order came about because I walked the north coast at the start of my walk from Land's End to John O'Groats. I was so impressed by that part of the walk that I decided to walk the rest of the coast path.

I stayed in B&Bs and youth hostels, mostly arranged as I went along. That mostly worked well at the times of year I walked (June in 2004, September in 2005 and June/early July in 2006). The busiest times were at weekends, when I almost got stranded once or twice, and it would have been better to book ahead at least on Saturdays.
